Russia has no plans to attack any NATO country, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told PBS. “This can only happen in the case of a ‘reciprocal act,'” he said.
The news is conveyed by the Tass agency, according to which Peskov was asked about a possible escalation of the conflict. He hinted that Russia has no intention of expanding the war. “They are just forcing us, but we can not think this and we do not want to think,” he said.
Due to the Russian attack on Ukraine, NATO decided to strengthen its combat units in the eastern countries that are members of the alliance. According to the final statement at the extraordinary Brussels summit, new military units will be sent to Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia. So far there are such units in Poland and in the three Baltic states, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The alliance explained that these are “units ready for war”, whose aim is to avoid the spread of war and to intimidate Russia.
The multinational units are made up of soldiers from various member states, an element that NATO seeks to “make clear that an attack on an allied country will be considered an attack on the entire alliance.” Precisely to demonstrate the harsh attitude of Western countries towards Russia, the series of summits held in Brussels was attended by US President Joe Biden.
