A man in his 40s who was riding a motorbike in Lawn Hill National Park in Australia took a break in the pond of a waterfall when he was attacked by a giant beast.
He was then taken to hospital by an air ambulance from the wounds received by the freshwater crocodile.
The incident happened Sunday in Queensland park as the man was swimming in Adel’s Grove pond when the beast grabbed him by the arm and refused to let him go.
The brave man had told rescue teams that he had clashed with the crocodile before he managed to escape.
Rescuers rushed him by helicopter to the nearest hospital where he remains in pain but in stable condition.
He had suffered bite wounds to the arm, hands and feet.
Rescue officer Greig Allan said: “The patient told us that the crocodile that attacked him was probably three meters tall and that he was lucky to have survived.
Ambulance services in Queensland said there was a large population of freshwater crocodiles in the area.
He added: “Crocodiles are normally very shy but can become aggressive when caught by surprise.”
Earlier this month a teenage girl was killed by a crocodile while swimming in a river in Zimbabwe.
The villagers had rushed to his aid after hearing the screams and started looking for him, but the crocodile had disappeared along with the victim’s body.
