Witnesses described yesterday moments of horror when a 200,000-tonne transporter was about to hit a man on an air raft.
The video shows dramatic rescue moments off the coast of Southampton in Britain when the panicked man jumps into the water and swims to save lives.
Apparently, the engine of his raft had broken down leaving him in the middle of the crossing line of the giant conveyor Al Zubara.
The footage was recorded by a passenger on a nearby ferry, who described how he “mixed up when he saw the man being pulled over by the carrier” as he tried to escape.
But at the last moment he seems to have been pulled out of the water for two other men on another dinghy.
The incident happened as Al Zubara set off on its way to the port of Le Havre in France.
“She certainly did not see him approaching. “When he saw him, he started moving in panic, trying to start the engine of his boat, and the engine was not starting, he was thrown into the water”, said the student Eden East, who recorded the video.
Southampton port authorities said the man was rescued from a patrol boat and then taken to hospital from concussion.
