The President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, has tested positive for the new coronavirus (COVID-19) for the second time.
The Polish presidency announced that Duda, 49, has not shown any symptoms related to the virus and his condition is currently good.
Duda contracted the coronavirus even earlier in October 2020. Since then he has received two doses of the vaccine as well as the booster dose last month.
Meanwhile, Polish Health Minister Adam Niedzielski told a news conference that no new restrictions would be imposed in the country at the moment, stressing that data on the Omicron type in Poland would become clear by the end of January.
He stressed that the recent increases in the number of daily cases were temporary as a result of the holiday season, announcing plans to increase the number of hospital beds for coronavirus patients to 60,000.
The Polish Ministry of Health also announced that 632 people have died from the coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
To date, more than 21 million people have been fully vaccinated in Poland and more than 6.6 million have received the booster dose.
According to the US-based Johns Hopkins University, since December 2019 the pandemic has claimed over 5.46 million lives across the globe, with more than 295.4 million cases reported worldwide.
