For the third night in a row, thousands of people have protested in Skopje against the French proposal to lift the Bulgarian veto, which would pave the way for the start of North Macedonia’s accession negotiations with the European Union, and therefore of Albania.
A group of protesters, led by elements of the Left party, and Dimitar Apaciev pushed the barriers placed in front of the government building. They then threw plastic bottles, eggs and toilet paper at her, entered her yard, despite the police’s efforts to stop them.

The protesters are convinced that the French proposal allows the “Bulgarianization” of North Macedonia and does not recognize either the Macedonian language or history, and they demand that it be rejected by the executive, while Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski has described it as a “strong basis for building of an attitude towards the possibility of opening up our state”.
The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, is expected to arrive in Skopje today for an official visit as part of the talks on the French proposal for the constitutional framework.
In its point 4, the inclusion of Bulgarians in the Constitution is required. From the Albanian opposition, such a thing is conditioned by the claim that with the opening of the basic document, the early request to include the Albanian language and not the definition “the language spoken by more than 20 percent of the population, is official language.
