On Sunday Christian believers celebrate Easter, a holiday that symbolizes the resurrection of Christ.
On Saturday evening, Pope Francis presided over the Easter Vigil service at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City.
The Holy Father, who has repeatedly condemned the conflict in Ukraine and called for a ceasefire over Easter, told the mayor of Melitopol and Ukrainian lawmakers attending the mass that he was praying for them.
“In this darkness you are living in, in the darkness of war, of cruelty, we all pray. Tonight we pray for you: courage, we are with you. Let’s make Jesus resurrected. Let’s free him from the cramped cells in which we have imprisoned him so often. “Let us bring it into our daily lives: through the gestures of peace in these days marked by the horrors of war.”said the Pope.
Easter Sunday Mass was also held in Jerusalem. Catholic believers from all over the world gathered there to celebrate.
Easter marks the most important event of Christianity. Remembering the resurrection of Christ is a way to renew the daily hope of victory over sin.
The symbol of Easter is the egg, painted red, which symbolizes the blood of Christ. For every Christian family Easter, leaves behind grief, promotes forgiveness, love and help to relatives in distress, the sick and the poor.
