An amateur climber has fallen to her death from at least 30 meters in a mountainous area in northern Italy, where she was walking with her husband.
The 56-year-old British woman was out hiking with her husband on the famous Santner via Ferrata in the Dolomites in northern Italy when she suddenly lost her balance.
The accident happened shortly after midday when the couple were still a few kilometers from the tourist center of Catinaccio, in South Tyrol.
Via Ferrata is a frequented mountain crossing with fixed ropes, ladders and handrails that help in crossing sharp rocky terrain.
The body of the tragic victim was recovered by rescue helicopters, while her identity has not been disclosed to the media.
The treacherous crossing is turning into a death trap as this is not the first time that someone has lost their life on the difficult via Ferrata paths, which can be underestimated by the presence of the ‘assistance tools’ installed.
Last week, a 55-year-old Italian man lost his life falling from a height of 40 meters.
A month earlier a young climber was killed in Catinaccio, after falling from one of the Laurenzi via Ferrata passes.
