The bodies of eight crew members of a Ukrainian cargo plane have been recovered from the scene after the plane crashed last night in Kavalla, Greece.
At the hospital in Komotini, experts have examined the dead bodies of the crew members. Afterwards, the bodies were handed over to diplomatic representatives of Ukraine in Greece.
The cause of the plane crash is still unknown. The spokesman of the fire brigade, Janis Artofios, said earlier that no dangerous materials were found during the investigation carried out at the site of the plane crash.
Domination teams are continuing to locate the ammunition that was scattered near the crash site.
The plane, which had departed from Nis, Serbia, had Ukrainian crew members. The plane, which was said to be carrying Serbian weapons to Bangladesh, crashed late Saturday.
The Minister of Defense of Serbia, Nebojša Stefanović, said that the plane was owned by the company “Meridian” from Ukraine, it was transporting 11.5 tons of weapons that had left Serbia for Bangladesh.
Stefanovic confirmed during a press conference on July 17 that the Ukrainian company was the sole owner of the plane and was carrying mines and other mines produced by the Serbian company Valir.
He rejected the claims of some media that the weapons have been sent to Ukraine, saying that they are “malicious and harmful to Serbia”.
According to reports, the pilot of the plane had informed the authorities that there was a problem with one of the plane’s engines and he was asked to land at Thessaloniki or Kavalla airport.
After taking off in the direction of Kavalla, the plane crashed about 40 kilometers west of the airport, Greece’s Civil Aviation Authority said.
