Following the sanctions imposed on Moscow for the attack on Ukraine, Russia leaves open the future of the Joint Space Station ISS after 2024.
Sanctions imposed on Moscow for the attack on Ukraine have also greatly aggravated US-Russian cooperation in space. The Russian Space Agency – Roskosmos – has left open the future of the ISS Space Station after the expiration of the contract in 2024. NASA aims at a cooperation agreement until 2030.
According to CNN reports after the clashes last week on Twitter between former ISS commander Scott Kelly and the head of the Russian Space Agency, Dmitry Rogozin NASA has warned astronauts and former American astronauts about possible verbal attacks and insults to “partners Russian ”. NASA said insults and verbal attacks on Russian officials could have “harmful” consequences for ISS operations.
In the midst of heavy tensions between Russia and the West at the International Space Station finally arrived a crew consisting only of Russian cosmonauts. Cosmonauts Oleg Artemyev, Denis Matveyev and Sergey Korsakov anchored their Soyuz MS-21 spacecraft at the ISS.
NASA announced that the Russian cosmonauts initially stayed on their spacecraft because after the mooring little work was still needed before the gate of the International Space Station ISS was opened.
The Soyuz spacecraft, launched on Friday (March 18th), is named after Soviet rocket designer Sergei Korolev, who was born in Zhytomyr in 1907. The city is now on Ukrainian territory./DW
