A young girl who was held for days by a rapist managed to escape by throwing handwritten letters to a neighbor from the window, Spanish police announced.
The woman who was held against her will for six days in a house in Pontevedra in northwestern Spain, had been raped by the kidnapper, said Guardia Civil officials, who broke down the door of the house and rescued her that sensitive morning.
In a statement quoted by the daily Atlantico it said: “The officers decided not to knock on the door, as the woman had warned them that if the alleged assailant saw the police he had threatened to kill her.”
“So in the face of a flagrant crime they used force by breaking down the door.”
Inside, the officers found the suspected aggressor and the victim, in a state of shock.
The young victim had managed to raise the alarm by throwing some handwritten letters into one of the building’s windows.
The suspect was identified only as 26-year-old MFR, 26, a local resident, and was arrested for unlawful deprivation of liberty, sexual assault and physical assault.
Sources said the victim and attacker knew each other and had previously been in a relationship.
The victim’s family had declared her missing a few days ago.
El Diario reported that the suspect was wanted for similar attacks and had seized another victim just a month earlier in the neighboring town of Pontearea.
The attacker faces 15 to 20 years in prison if convicted.
