A woman who survived an acid attack when she refused marriage at the age of 15 has recently been married to a man she met in hospital during difficult recovery.
28-year-old Pramodini Roul, with severe burns on her face and only 20 percent of her eyesight, was married on March 1 to 29-year-old Saroj Sahoo whom she met at the hospital in 2018, in her hometown of Jagatsinhpur.
In addition to facial injuries and vision, Pramodini had been left hairless from the attack.
But those did not stop him from enjoying the most beautiful day of his life at the beginning of the month at the wedding of 1000 guests, including other survivors of acid attacks.
Pramodini, who wore a wig on her wedding day, said: “I feel blessed to be married to Saroj, it is a wonderful feeling.”
“We had many guests at our wedding, to celebrate the special day with us.”
The couple were engaged in 2018 and had planned to get married in April 2020 but the pandemic outbreak last year delayed their plans.
Pramodini added: “After his frequent hospital visits during my recovery in 2018 we fell in love and he left his job to take care of me.”
“Many people were surprised that we decided to get married but we fell in love and our families accepted the idea.”
Pramodini was only 15 years old when she was attacked with acid on her face, which she says happened after the rejection of a marriage proposal.
But after suffering more than a decade and five reconstructive plastic surgeries, she recognized in the hospital the love of her life.
Pramodini says: “After we met at the hospital we lived together in New Delhi before we decided to get married two years later.
“I met Saroj for the first time after my first operation, I was seduced by his warmth. He loves me the way I am. “It always encourages me to live happily.”
Both of them are already working to help survivors of hate attacks through the Chaanv Foundation charity.
