Thousands marched in central Athens today to denounce “out-of-control” prices and “low wages” as labor unions announced a 24-hour strike.
One of the marchers said that prices “are bringing Greece to its knees” while another said that the “free fall” of pensions and salaries “can not continue”.
The announced strike will affect public services and stop train and ferry services.
European countries are suffering from the inflation crisis, rising energy prices and rising living costs that sparked protests in some countries.
Greeks have been affected by mainly by rising energy bills and housing prices.
Prices have risen 6.2 percent since January, a record for Greece since joining the euro in January 2001.
Civil and private service unions joined today’s protest in Athens and several other cities in the country.
Following declining support for the 2023 election, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a 1.1 billion-euro financial package to help the poorest families.
