We have been able to document that heavy metal pollution continues to be still at alarming levels, capturing figures up to 16 times higher than the norm.
Top Story took a soil sample, at a depth of 30 cm, in one of the houses next to the superphosphate and sent it for analysis to the laboratory of the Agricultural University.
The obtained results confirm that the land around the former superphosphate plant in Lac continues to be contaminated, even 3 decades after its closure.
More specifically, Copper has resulted in content 16 times higher than the norm, Cobalt is found in this tonnage in the amount 12 times above the norm, cadmium 2 times above the norm and the presence of zinc is 4 times higher than the norm.
Prof. Dr. Ferdi Brahushi, who was made available, suggests that a more detailed study and analysis should be undertaken to make a full assessment of the content of heavy metals in the area of the former superphosphate plant in Laç, not only on land but also in water and plants, in order for experts to calculate the level of risk of the condition of these heavy metals in the environment.
