According to the law on veterinary medicine, every medical product must pass several filters before it can be used. Article 85 of the law stipulates that Veterinary Medical products that have a trade certificate in at least one of the European Union countries or are provided with a certificate from the European Agency for Evaluation of Drugs, EMA, are accepted for registration. So the same agency that certifies human drugs.
“PMVs are allowed to be traded only after the registration certificate has been approved in Albania, the file is submitted, there is a commission and only after that it is allowed. Initially, the trade authorization is given for 5 years and in case of repetition, then it is without a deadline “said Altin Telo, Former Director of the Veterinary Service.
“Certainly veterinary medicine has the same rules as human medicine and in terms of indications for antibiotics should think twice, not only about the animal but also the product it produces and where it will go, where is the end chain, the effects on human life and especially in future generations “said Zihni Sula, Professor of Toxicology.
The State Commission consists of 2 representatives of the Structure responsible for Veterinary at the ministry, two representatives of the ISUV-institute responsible for analysis and 1 representative of the Faculty of Pharmacology. Based on the decision of the commission, this is the list of official veterinary drugs which has been made available to us by the Ministry of Agriculture.
It lists 794 drugs allowed in the Albanian market. Among them, there are also drugs produced in countries like China, Peru, Argentina, India or other countries with low standards. “Registration of drugs outside the EU at the relevant institution is a procedure that has happened over the years, it still happens today,” said Ervin Resuli, Veterinarian ..
“There is legislation that clearly defines the drugs allowed to be imported, there are steps to be followed until licensing, if there are products on the market approved, it is unquestionably an illegal activity and unquestionably that has a negative impact on animal health and human health. “Said Dritan Laçi, Professor of Veterinary Medicine.
“EMA and European agencies are very careful, they have strict legislation to not allow anything superfluous to go to the human body, to take non-toxic agents that affect the opposite, instead of the nutrient agent takes the toxic that can be done cause for illness later “said Zihni Sula, Professor of Toxicology.
