In the first four months of this year, 1.07 million foreign nationals entered the country, according to data published by INSTAT.
Compared to the same period a year ago, when the pandemic was at its peak and movements continued to be limited, foreign inflows into the country have increased by 42%.
The increase was influenced by the significant increase in inflows from all countries, except Kosovo, which fell by almost 14%. The inflows from Greece increased sixfold, while in the same period a year ago they were almost paralyzed. Citizens from Italy almost tripled, from Spain fivefold, from England sixfold.
Tourism is meanwhile approaching pre-crisis levels, as foreign arrivals were only 3% lower than the first quarter of 2019, which has now been the best historical year for tourism.
Compared to the pre-pandemic period, more Italian, English, German and Kosovo citizens entered the country.
Kosovo’s weight has dropped in the first four months of this year, as a result of lower inflows from the neighboring country and a significant increase in tourists from Europe. For the period January-April 2022, citizens from Kosovo accounted for 31% of the total, from 50% in the same period a year ago.
Entrances and exits
According to INSTAT, the entries of Albanian and foreign citizens in the Albanian territory, in April 2022, are 832,920. Compared to April 2021, this indicator results in an increase of 78.6%. In April 2022, the number of foreign nationals who entered the Albanian territory is 402,051. Compared to April 2021, this number has increased by 66.8%.
During the first quarter of 2022, from the countries that have the highest inflows of citizens to Albania, Greece has had the largest increase by 6 times, while Kosovo has had the most significant decline by 13.6%, compared to the same period of year 2021
The outflow of citizens is almost doubled
Departures of Albanian and foreign citizens from the territory of Albania, during April 2022, are 834,528, marking an increase of 85.5%, compared to the same period a year ago. The departures of Albanian citizens from the territory of Albania, during the month of April 2022 are 449,294. Compared to April 2021, this number has doubled. Departures of foreign citizens from the territory of Albania during April 2022, are 385,234. Compared to April 2021, this number has increased by 75.5%.
The number of Albanian citizens leaving the territory of Albania during the first four months of 2022, is 1,502,984, increasing by 52.3%, compared to the same period a year ago.
