“The smell is terrible – this foam has been here for a long time,” Luz community representative Mariela Gómez told local television. “We are in danger, someone can fall into it and we will not know how to find it, we will not know what will happen.”
Images from the Mosquera residential area showed shifting heavy-duty foam covering the sidewalks and rising above residents, blocking a school road as well.

Mosquera Mayor Gian Gerometta said the pollution accumulation comes from industrial pollution in the river. “We are aware of the dangers posed by this phenomenon,” he wrote in tweeter .
Authorities have warned locals not to approach the foam which is reported to have caused respiratory problems and skin irritations.
“It is important that children stay away as we still do not know what the material is,” he said for local media Environment official Edwin García added that a waste plant in the region has been working to decontaminate the river since 2020. “We will monitor and clean the entire river to stop the accumulation of the amount,” he added.
