At least 20 people have died and 30 others are missing after an overcrowded boat capsized on its way to a wedding in Pakistan today.
More than 100 members of a family circle, including children, had boarded the ill-fated vehicle to sail on the Indus River in Pakistan when it overturned.
About 90 people were pulled out by rescue teams as members of the emergency services tried to rescue survivors.
Officials said most of the passengers were women and children going to a family wedding in the eastern Sadiqabad area.
Local government official Aslam Tasleem told local network Geo News TV: “We have brought out 20 bodies so far and most of them are women.”
He added that 30 others are missing.
Tasleem said: “We are not sure exactly how many people were on the boat. We are trying to make assessments according to the testimonies of family members”.
More than 30 divers were taking part in the desperate search and recovery operation for the people who fell into the water.
Police officer Mohammad Hammad said the death toll could rise.
