The United States will “support Kiev’s diplomatic efforts” to reach a ceasefire and withdraw Russian forces from Ukraine, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Wednesday.
“If there are diplomatic steps we can take that the Ukrainian government believes would be helpful, we are prepared to take them, even though we continue to support Ukraine’s ability to defend itself. But if Russia withdraws and pursues diplomacy, we are ready to do the same. Meanwhile, our intensive diplomacy with allies and partners continues. I was in contact almost every day with my friend and counterpart Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba. “I have made it clear that we will support any diplomatic effort by the Ukrainian government to reach a ceasefire and withdraw Russian forces,” he said.
Blinken also announced a new round of sanctions against Russia, targeting 22 Russian “defense-related entities” as Russia moves forward with its occupation of Ukraine.
The subjects that will be sanctioned include “companies that produce fighter jets, infantry fighting vehicles, missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles.
Blinken also issued a warning to Belarus, blaming Lukashenko’s regime as an accomplice in President Putin’s election.
