Two cargo ships collided on December 13 in the Baltic Sea, between the Danish island of Bornholm and the southern Swedish city of Ystad as rescue operations continue in search of at least two people, Swedish and Danish authorities announced.
The ship, Karin Hoej, registered in Denmark, has capsized. There were two people on board and two were missing, the Danish Joint Operations Center (JOC) announced.
The other ship, registered in Britain, the Scot Carrier, is operational and its staff is safe.
“I can confirm that there was an accident, but I do not know the circumstances,” said Soren Hoj, director of the company, Rederiet Hoj, which owns the ship, Karin Hoej.
On the other hand, the spokesman of the Danish Meteorological Institute, said that at the time when the ships collided there was fog. The accident happened around 3am.
In the rescue operation to find the two missing persons are also helping the civilian ships that were in the vicinity.
