The population growth in the United States has been the smallest ever in the first year of the pandemic.
Among the main causes mentioned are: low immigration, delayed pregnancies and hundreds of thousands of coronavirus-related deaths.
The U.S. Census Bureau has shown that the population has increased by 0.1 percent or 392,665 people in the period July 2020-July 2021.
This increase has brought the total population to 331.8 million inhabitants, reports REL.
Population growth has faced slower rates in the US in the past, but recent figures are also the result of a pandemic.
“I expected discounts, but not so much, Says William Frey, senior researcher at the Brookings Institution, in response to the Asscicated Press news agency.
“This shows us that the pandemic has had a huge impact in all areas, now even in demographics. We have an aging population and that means fewer women are of childbearing age. “We see young people pushing the age when they want to have children and they want to have fewer children.”.
Another report published on December 21st has shown that life expectancy has dropped by 1.8 years in 2020 in the US.
This is also the largest decrease for more than 75 years. Cause pandemic is also mentioned here.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the average life expectancy of a person now goes to 77 years to come out of 78.8 as it was in 2019.
