Ukraine has begun accepting shipments of anti-ship missiles, Harpoon, from Denmark and obus from the United States, said Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov.
“Our state naval defense will be strengthened by Harpoon missiles – they will be used by trained Ukrainian teams,” he said on May 28.
Minister Reznikov said these missiles would be used alongside Ukrainian Neptune missiles to protect the Black Sea, including the port city of Odessa.
Harpoon missiles are believed to dodge radar systems. They can be dropped by ships, submarines, planes or even by crews along the coastline.
Russia has blocked Ukrainian ports, cutting off vital grain exports and using the Black Sea Fleet to launch missile strikes on Ukrainian cities.
Reznikov said Ukraine had also received heavy artillery shipments, including a modified US model of the M109 howitzer, that would allow the Ukrainian military to hit targets from farther distances.
Ukraine wants to accept deliveries of M270 long-range missile launchers from the US to strengthen defenses in the east, where Russia is conducting an aggressive offensive and has concentrated its military power in that area, as it failed to take control. of Kiev after the start of the occupation on 24 February.
