On its website, the ministry says it “strongly condemns” the decision of the Syrian Arab Republic to recognize the “so-called independence” of the “temporarily occupied territories” in Donetsk and Luhansk.
The statement said Syria’s decision was an “unfriendly act” against Ukraine and a violation of the principles of international law.
On Wednesday, Syria’s foreign ministry announced that the country had recognized “the independence and sovereignty of the self-proclaimed republics of Luhansk and Donetsk” in eastern Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky severed diplomatic relations with Syria following the announcement.
