Two humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians have been agreed to open to Ukraine on Sunday, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk has announced, including from Mariupol.
Residents of the besieged city of Donetsk will be allowed to use their transport to get to the city of Zaporizhzhia, while civilians trying to escape fighting in the neighboring Luhansk region will be allowed to evacuate from the city of Rubizhne about 80 km away.
In an update to the situation Sunday, Ukraine’s general staff said it had repulsed seven enemy attacks in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Donbas, destroying eight tanks. The Russian Defense Ministry, meanwhile, reported on taking control of two villages near the separatist Donetsk stronghold.
Meanwhile at least five people were reportedly injured after at least two rockets hit Lviv, a city in western Ukraine that had previously been spared from Russia’s brutal attack. One of the rockets hit a fuel depot. The attack took place while President Biden was in Poland, which borders LVIV. Ukrainian forces meanwhile say they have recaptured several villages from Russian forces including those east of Kharkiv and northwest of Mariupol. The war in Ukraine has already entered its second month.
