US Secretary of State Antony Blinken assured Ukraine on Thursday that Washington would not allow anything to hinder the delivery of the weapons it needs to fight Russia.
“We will not allow anything that would prevent the delivery (of weapons) that the Ukrainians need and that we think are effective,” he said.
Blinken, who met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers, said the United States had warned before the Russian invasion that part of “the Kremlin’s campaign plan was to cause atrocities.”
“We had said that when Russia carried out this aggression, part of its plan was to cause cruelty, to commit the kinds of crimes we are seeing now, to terrorize the civilian population. And so that, as we saw, was part of the plan all the time“.
Blinken added that the United States is maintaining and increasing pressure on the Kremlin.
NATO member states agreed on Thursday to strengthen support for Ukraine and are offering a wide range of weapons systems, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said after a meeting of the alliance’s foreign ministers.
His statement came after Ukraine’s foreign minister insisted and clearly that Ukraine needs weapons and needs them as soon as possible.
