The U.S. Air Force lab and integrated testing team recently demonstrated new capabilities described by them as “low cost” to defeat naval threats.
At a time when World War III seems to be fast approaching, America has shown that it can destroy enemies by sinking an offshore tanker.
The April 28 maneuver showed the successful test in the Gulf of Mexico with a surface-to-surface missile hitting the tanker, which sank after splitting in two by force.
Torpedoes are mainly used to hit enemy ships from submarines, while the new QUICKSINK (Rapid Sink) model can achieve its maximum with air-launched vehicles, including the 900 kg precision bombs, JDAM.
The F-15E fighters fired a modified GBU-31 bomb as part of the second QUICKSINK maneuvering experiment.
QUICKSINK U.S. Navy partnership program to neutralize surface naval threats but officials said they seek to neutralize the threats by demonstrating flexibility in their strength.
“Heavy torpedoes are effective for attacks on large ships but they are expensive and used by only a small number of naval vessels,” said Major Andrew Swanson.
“That’s why with the QUICKSINK program we have demonstrated a less costly and more agile solution that can be used by fighter jets,” he added.
“A submarine has the ability to launch and destroy the ship with a single torpedo, while the QUICKSINK program creates the possibility of strikes from the air or for a wider area,” he added.
