A 31-year-old father of two who was refused a heart transplant at a New York hospital because he refused the COVID-19 vaccine has undergone an emergency procedure to place a mechanical pump in its place.
DJ Ferguson’s family says he was first on the transplant list but was denied the right to vaccination status.
Yesterday the father of two children received a mechanical heart pump called “ventricular assistant” which can keep him alive for about five years, went the network ABC News.
“For the foreseeable future, he will not be able to shower or swim, he will not have a life,” said his father, David Ferguson.
Despite receiving the device through surgery, Ferguson still needs the transplant from his deteriorating condition, the parents say.
“He was told he was qualified for a heart transplant, but he had to get the vaccine to proceed with the procedure,” David Ferguson told Fox News.
“His condition deteriorated so much that they had to perform open-heart surgery to place the LVAD mechanical pump. [asistues i ventrikulës së djathtë]. “Now my son has a pump, they perform seven hours of surgery.”
DJ’s fiancée, Heather, with whom he is expecting his third child, appreciated the care given by the doctors but was discouraged about the situation created.
“It’s terrible. “The nurses were great, but having this problem always over your head after all we have gone through is very discouraging,” she said.
David Ferguson said his son did not believe in the COVID-19 vaccine.
“It’s against his principles. “They are imposing this policy so it is not injected, so they removed it from the transplant list,” he said.
“He is not an anti-vaccine. “He has had all the vaccinations before, but he is an informed patient and is concerned about his current heart condition,” said the patient’s mother Tracey Ferguson.
