U.S. lawmakers have received classified information about the situation in Ukraine from senior defense and intelligence officials.
It is reported that among the data there were possible timelines for the collapse of Kiev and other Ukrainian cities.
“The worst is yet to be seen militarily,” Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said after leaving the meeting.
A lawmaker told the US network CNN – on condition of anonymity – that the deadlines presented were “alarming”.
Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy said on Twitter that “the fight for Kiev will be long and bloody.”
Murphy has said that Western nations will not only freeze but also seize the assets of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the biggest oligarchs, which he says could be a step further than Putin envisioned.
Moscow’s attack on Ukraine began in the early hours of February 24.
The missiles were fired at airports and military infrastructure in about 25 cities.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a “special operation” to demilitarize Ukraine.
The Kremlin action has sparked outrage and been condemned around the world.
