Amid heightened tensions with Russia, the United States has sent new military aid to Ukraine. A US cargo plane landed at Kiev airport overnight, the US embassy in Kiev announced today.
There were 90 tons of deadly weapons on board, including ammunition for Ukrainian front-line defenders. This support was ordered by US President Joe Biden.
The embassy published photos showing the plane being unloaded. “Military assistance and $ 2.7 billion since 2014 show the US commitment to help Ukraine strengthen its defenses against growing Russian aggression,” the embassy said.
Russia has repeatedly called on Ukraine not to further arm itself, as this would provoke military tensions and encourage the country to attack, for example, the Donbas region east of the former Soviet republic in order to regained control of the pro-Russian separatist provinces of Luhansk and Donetsk.
