In what is known as “darknet”, anticovid vaccines are also sold at exaggerated prices.
One dose can go up to $ 1,200. This was discovered by Kaspersky, a company that deals with information security. Analysts have examined 15 sales markets in the ‘darknet’, the black market of the web, being able to find doses of Pfizer and Biontech, AstraZeneca, Modern and other uncertified anticovid vaccines. Most of the vendors are in France, Germany, the UK and the United States.
Prices for each dose, according to a statement, range from $ 200 to $ 1,200, with an average cost of about $ 500 per dose. Purchase agreements are made between an encrypted messaging application such as Wickr or Telegram while payments are required in cryptocurrency form, mainly “bitcoin”, which by nature are more difficult to trace.
In the “darknet”, underlines Dimitry Galov, a security expert of Kaspersky, you can find everything, so the fact that some vendors are trying to take advantage of the vaccination campaign, should not surprise us. According to the analysis, not only vaccine doses are sold but also vaccination records, or documents that enable relocation from one place to another, freely. According to Kaspersky estimates, most of the illegal sellers have made about 100-500 sales transactions, but it is not clear what darknet users are really buying. It is impossible to confirm whether the vaccines sold online are real or fake vaccines.
