The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj during a meeting with representatives of operators and tourist agencies, following the preparations for the title “Tirana, the European Capital of Youth 2022”, talking about the grand final of the Conference League that will take place on 25 May at the “Air Albania” stadium, said that it is an extraordinary operation that needs good coordination for the many fans who will come to Tirana.
“We are prepared to expect about 5 thousand fans in Tirana, from each of the teams that will play the final of the Conference League, while the rest may be local fans. We will need a lot of help because it is an operation that will take place in three days; so, two days before the match and one day after it, where we will mobilize about 100 buses dedicated only to transport Tirana-Rinas. For this reason we need to know more or less your capabilities. We are monitoring the new hotels, which are waiting to open, and see who will meet the May 25 deadline; so it will be an extraordinary operation. Therefore, I would like all of us to have a super-coordination only for this great event “, underlined Veliaj.
Regarding the battle with the Albanian Football Federation, Veliaj said: “I have no personal interest, but I can not be the mayor of a city where there are 300 children’s sports teams, and after their parents spend the last 20 years from 20-30 thousand lekë every month to train them, to turn them into an auction and the parent who can not pay 100 thousand euros can not lead the boy to play football as a professional. This seems insulting to me and I definitely do this battle, as a shareholder of the Tirana Club, as the biggest financier. “When you have financed so much in the city for sports and you realize that the fields and the grass are not enough to make sure that the talent ends where it should, then it is up to me to react as a citizen.”
The mayor stressed that every challenge and battle is done for the good of all.
“We have been given a fantastic opportunity! Of course, it is a challenge, but also an opportunity, so I believe that as we gather here, as a community, we understand that we have no rivalry with each other. “If Tirana is promoted well, we all benefit”, he concluded.
Veliaj asked for the cooperation of operators and tourist agencies, to promote Tirana, as befits it, in the year of youth.
