The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj welcomed in a meeting the chairwoman of the Kharkiv Regional Council in Eastern Ukraine, Tetiana Yehorova-Lutsenko, who assured her that Tirana will give its contribution to the reconstruction of the city after the end of the war.
Veliaj recalled that when Tirana was twinned with the city of Kharkiv in 2018, many things were different – there was no earthquake, no pandemic, no war – but he added that the good friend is known in difficult days.
“Good friends look on difficult days! When things go well, it’s easy to twin with another city. But when things go wrong, it shows who the real friend is. We have decided to make a contribution to the reconstruction of Kharkiv, with full conviction that Ukraine will not only win, but will rise stronger. “Our contribution could be the events to rebuild a school or a kindergarten, from what we have shown that we know how to do well, because we want to give our modest part in the reconstruction of a sister city”, said Veliaj.
The mayor greeted his counterpart in Kharkiv, while saying that the capital of Tirana will be there to support in the most difficult days.
“I greet the mayor of Kharkiv, give him courage and assure him that we will be with him. Whether with a school, a kindergarten, or an aid for the consulate, but we will also be present for the reconstruction part. Albania, the government of Albania, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, have been super active in the Security Council, with our fantastic team in New York, but also with other assistance, be they civilian or military, that have not been absent from Albania, has been present far more than others who have the greatest opportunities, but who hesitate in such cases. I wish all the friends in Kharkiv, our twin city, our sister city, a lot of strength and a lot of courage. We will be together, especially in the second part of this conflict, during the reconstruction, which is even more difficult, which requires a lot of patience “, said Veliaj.
The chairwoman of the Kharkiv Regional Council, Tetiana Yehorova-Lutsenko, thanked Mayor Veliaj for the support given and for raising the voice in the international arena for Ukraine.
“I want to express my great gratitude to the mayor of Tirana and his entire team. For us, now, the most important thing is not the finances, but the need for support. “You have raised your voice for us in the international arena,” she said.
