The intimate video of a young couple that ended up being shared on social media has angered the community of Wa’s town in Wa Ghana so much that they caught the ‘lovers’ and tied them to poles in the town square to punish them with beatings.
Residents of the African town took the law into their own hands and punished the man and woman for their video by hitting them 20 times with sticks, after allegations that ‘immoral’ images had tarnished the ‘town’s reputation’.
Shocking images of two lovers tied to two different pillars in the main square, were posted on the network. The sentence style looks similar to images coming in recent months from Ukraine, where similarly linked are those considered by radical crowds pro-Russian or refusing military service.
Judicial authorities in Ghana, meanwhile, have condemned the abuse in the western region, calling it barbaric and primitive.
Executioners of the sentence cited in their argument the principles of the Islamic religion saying that it was wrong to record the sex video and even more so to distribute it on the network.
Reports suggest the 20-stroke trial was handed down by Na Fuseini tribal leader Seidu Pelpuo IV, who said the sentence was intended to teach discipline to the city’s youth.
He said: “Apart from the beatings, the parents of the boy and the girl will agree to both get married and stay as a couple, so that this can serve as an example for young people to lead serious lives.”
But judicial authorities condemned the embarrassing beatings in a statement.
“Public flogging of young people is backward, barbaric and punishable. “These floors violate some laws of the Constitution.”
The group of lawyers called on citizens not to take the law into their own hands, whether it is illegal activity or violation of the moral code.
