Footage shows the terrifying moments when a monstrous shark breaks through the protective cage of the diver who was filming it, forcing him to rush to the rescue.
The footage shows diver Jimi Partington swimming in panic to save his life, before the sea beast he was provoking from behind the glass tries to bite him.
Jimi is first seen standing in the glass box near the surface of the water.
He looks curiously at the large creature moving around him, and even knocks on the glass to get its attention.
The shark then lunges towards a school of fish before returning to the glass case, gripping it with its jaws around the base.
The cage is broken by the force of the animal’s mouth and Jimi finds himself panicking in the water.
Footage shot in 2020 was recently published in Discovery’s Shark Week program.
Producer Jeff Kurr said: “The film tells the story of my rat Jimi Partington, who survived a 6-foot great white shark.”
“We managed to shoot this, which was the most spectacular sequence in the documentary.”
“It’s great because Jimi got hit by the shark but wasn’t hurt, he had to swim to the boat to save his life, but there’s a lot more to the documentary than this episode.”
Meanwhile, experts show how the best way to escape a shark attack is to be brave.
As with any form of coercion, the victim’s primary means of subjugation is his fear.
Ryan Johnson says the worst thing you can do when you see a shark’s eyes is act like its prey.
He says: “If you act like its prey, the shark will act like its prey. So don’t panic, don’t rush, don’t try to leave.”
“Defend your territory and in 99.9% of cases you will have fun with the predator and he will leave”.
