Two West Ham United fans were left unconscious and ended up in hospital after being raped by a group of German fans on the eve of the match with Eintracht Frankfurt.
The supporters of the English team were ambushed by a bunch of Eintracht ultras as they were walking along a street at 18:30.
They remained in hospital on Thursday, as their condition appeared serious after the attack by about 50 people, most of them in masks.
Frankfurt police said they were “ashamed” of the attack on innocent West Ham United fans.
More than 30 people were arrested and held overnight in custody. Police said the Germans made up the largest number of those arrested.
This Thursday morning, after several sporadic attacks on the supporters of the London team, about 800 West Ham fans marched in the “Red Light” area.
They left the O’Reilly bar and headed to face German rivals. But they were surrounded by police and failed to reach the “battlefield”. Fifteen German fans were also arrested in the Red Light area for violent behavior.
German police officer Thomas Hollerbach told the Mailonline: “We feel ashamed of these Frankfurt fans. I do not like to call them fans.
