The last session of the talks between Russia and Ukraine in Turkey brought consensus on several issues, said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, as the third party in the talks, after the meeting ended.
Cavusoglu said that today’s talks marked the biggest step in the “rapprochement between the two sides”, but did not speak specifically on what points the parties reached a consensus.
One of the Ukrainian negotiators Mikhailo Podolojak told the media that the key priority for Ukraine remains the agreement on the guarantee of Ukraine, so that the Putin Zelensky meeting is as close as possible.

One of the main developments in the talks was that Ukraine said it would accept neutral status – meaning it would not join military alliances, including NATO, or host military bases – in exchange for security guarantees from the countries. But Ukraine says it wants an international treaty signed by “security guarantors”, which includes: A provision that within three days of the start of a war, aggression or military operation, the guarantor countries will be legally obliged to provide military assistance to Ukraine and the imposition of a no-fly zone may apply here.
The guarantors would be permanent members of the UN Security Council: the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and the Russian Federation.
Ukraine also wants to see Turkey, Germany, Canada, Italy, Poland and Israel among the guarantors. Security guarantees will not apply “temporarily” to the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk
All guarantor countries are expected not to oppose Ukraine’s membership in the European Union and to assist it in this process.
Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, stressed that all the proposals of the Ukrainian delegation would need the broad support of Ukrainians.
