The United Nations General Assembly will vote today on whether to exclude Russia from the Human Rights Council.
The vote was confirmed at 10:00 a.m., according to Paulina Kubiak, a spokeswoman for the General Assembly president, Abdullah Shahid.
Two-thirds of the countries that voted in the 193-member assembly must support the suspension of Russia’s temporary removal from the Geneva-based Human Rights Council.
In recent years, the organization has come under pressure from the authorities in the wake of the ongoing crackdown on non-governmental organizations, independent media and democratic institutions throughout Russia.
Many activists, journalists and other people have fled Russia to other countries since Russia launched a large-scale offensive against Ukraine on February 24.
Meanwhile, the US Senate will vote on whether to ban the import of Russian oil.
