In a press statement before the start of the First Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference, Prime Minister Edi Rama thanked those who, as he says, have helped our country on its journey towards the union.
He stopped at former chancellor Angela Mekel and said that without her help, Albania would be on the verge of opening negotiations today, while he further wished her a happy birthday.
“I would start this morning with thanks and obviously I want to thank first and foremost the president of the EC, Mrs. Ursula who knows how to become a German Balkan presence in this building and fight for us. To fight for the member states and for us.
I want to thank another German lady without whom we would not be. Angela Merkel, to whom I wish a happy birthday.
I want to thank the Czech president, Petr Fiala, who made the way from Prague to Brussels to be present here”.
This is the end of the beginning, says the Albanian Prime Minister, while adding that “it’s good the way it is, we just need to build a strong Albania”.
