In Albania 7 decades ago, May 1 marked the workers’ day. Although Albanians have been living in democracy for more than 30 years, for some citizens May 1 is considered a picnic day.

An Albanian holiday that everyone enjoys when they go out in the gardens, drink a coffee and eat ice cream“, Said the citizen.

To suit the taste of people who love the holiday more than the protest. May 1 was a good work day.

“We know it is a reminder of the rights of the working class, but now it has taken on a different character. Holiday today!Said the violinist.

But for some professions, regardless of calendar days they should always be at work. Furrxhiu from Tirana, Jurgës Caushi says that bakeries should always be open, just like hospitals or police regions.

“ I am 21 years old and I have 4 years working as a pastry chef and baker. Why did you choose this profession? Because it is a beautiful profession and all things are done with passion and a lot of desire. Despite the fact that on holidays like New Year, Eid or any other holiday we are at work, I still love this job“, Said the young man.

Even the citizens who chose to protest for workers’ rights, although few in number, found it difficult to come to terms. For this reason they chose to split into two groups, students and expatriates.

“Even though it is the International Workers’ Day and we will all be like that, if not today we are students tomorrow we will be workers. We definitely demand lower prices and higher salaries, pensions“, Says the student.

Unlike students, immigrants do not seek work or pay increases. They want to enjoy the right to vote.

“Today we came with the Emigrant Movement to protest for the right to vote. This means that immigrants have the right to vote from where they live. to recognize electronic voting. Do not contribute to Albania voluntarily but also practically.”

Workers’ rights in other countries are protected by unions, but here in our country May 1, for unions who do not protest is a common date on the annual calendar.
