Eklent Kaçi, again declared world champion in billiards at the championship held in Las Vegas, USA, was received by the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj. Also known as the “Golden Eagle of Albania”, due to the numerous medals won by him in this sport, Eklent Kaçi was honored with the Medal of Gratitude of the City, as one of the most prominent talents of billiards, not only in Albania, but also internationally.
“You have made us all feel good in a sport, which is probably not very widespread in Albania, but sometimes a small country brings out great talents. I want to give you a very modest medal compared to the medals you have received, but I want you to know that we are proud of you. Everyone has their talent, be it in billiards, coding, football, management, the message of this medal is: “anyone who has talent, who works hard, who sweats, who achieves things with merit, not with fees, no with cards, but only with work, is the pride of our city, “said Veliaj.
The Mayor said that thanks to the work and achievements of the successful Albanian athlete, Eklent Kaçi, the European Billiards Championship will come to Tirana next year.
“I am glad that Eklenti today, perhaps in a country that has not given him all the opportunities to practice his sport, has become an extraordinary name in the world. The fact that he comes from Las Vegas as a world champion, and the fact that from his talent and team that works with a lot of dedication, Albania in June next year, when we will be the European Capital of Youth, will host the European Billiards Championship in Tirana with about 300 athletes, “Veliaj underlined.
The 22-year-old athlete himself expressed his happiness that after several successes in a row in the World Billiards Championship, he is awarded a medal by the Albanian state. “Thank you for the medal! It’s a pleasure! I have been winning big titles for years and this is the first medal I receive from the Albanian state and I am very happy about that. I will continue with my work. We are looking forward to the European Championship, which will be held here in Albania, “said Kaçi.
