US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will visit Kiev on Sunday, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Tomorrow, American officials will come to visit us. “I will meet with Secretary of Defense (Lloyd Austin) and Antony Blinken,” Zelensky told reporters Saturday.
The Ukrainian president did not provide further details about the possible visit.
It would be the first official visit by US government officials since Russia’s aggression against Ukraine began on February 24.
The White House declined to comment Saturday on the possible visit. The US State Department also declined to comment, reports VOA.
The Ukrainian president also demanded that the United States agree to be one of the guarantors of Ukraine’s security to protect it from future threats.
Mr Zelenskyy said he expected concrete results, including an agreement to offer more weapons.
Mr Zelensky has been urging Western allies for weeks to send more weapons to Ukraine to counter Russian aggression.
