Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today submitted a document with Ukraine’s answers to a questionnaire from the European Union
The move marks another step on Kiev’s path to European Union membership.
European Union Ambassador to Ukraine Matti Maasikas wrote on Twitter that he was honored to receive the answers to the European Commission questionnaire from President Zelensky.
The document was submitted by President Von der Leyen just 10 days ago.
The ambassador also posted photos of himself taking the document along with Zelensky and other senior Ukrainian officials, including Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
The submission of the questionnaire marks another step in the long process of becoming a full EU member state, a process that normally takes years to complete.
The European Commission will now review the answers given by Ukraine to the questionnaire and issue an opinion on whether Ukraine should be granted “Candidate Status”.
It will then be up to the leaders of the 27 existing member states to approve Ukraine’s candidate status before moving on to the next stage in which Kiev will need to harmonize its social, legal, administrative and financial processes. with that of the EU.
