The President of Ukraine Volodymir Zelensky said today after the visit of the President of the European Council, Chalres Michel that he is ready to release the Russian prisoners of war in exchange for the safe passage of Ukrainian civilians and troops to Mariupol.
He added that the situation in the city is deteriorating as the war continues, with hundreds injured without any access to health care. About 100,000 people remained in the besieged southern city.
Zelensky cited the siege of the Azovstal steel zone, adding that 1,000 civilians remain in the country, along with the remaining Ukrainian defense forces of the city.
The Ukrainian president went on to claim that Kiev had not seen or heard of an alleged document that the Kremlin says it had sent to Ukraine in connection with the peace talks.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was waiting for a response after handing over a document to the Ukrainian side.
