A herd of provoked foals trampled and injured 15 children and two adults at a summer camp in Vitre in northwest France.
Three children are unfortunately fighting for their lives in hospital and 12 others were injured by spooked foals during the camp’s horse riding course.
The children were accompanied by adults at the horse riding center on Tuesday evening when the unforeseen serious event occurred.
“During the walk, one of the foals, probably the one he was leading, suddenly turned around for unknown reasons, and the others started to follow him in panic,” the Rennes prosecutor’s office said.
“The animals ran at a gallop and trampled all those who were on the ground”, said the authorities, adding that there were children hit in the face with serious wounds from their hooves.
Two employees of the riding cube were treated for shock while three injured children were taken by helicopter to the hospital in serious condition.
The police have launched an investigation into the unheard of incident.
