The United States has declared economic war on Russia and Moscow will seriously consider how to act, this was the Kremlin’s reaction after US President Joe Biden’s decision to impose an embargo on Russian oil and other energy imports.
Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that Russia has been and will remain a reliable supplier of energy. But the West is making the situation very difficult, he said.
“The situation requires a deeper analysis after the step taken by President Biden. If you ask me what Russia will do, I also tell you that it will do whatever is necessary to protect its interests.“, Said Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesman.
The European Union is also looking for ways to get rid of its dependence on Russian gas. Accelerated work is now underway on plans to add renewable energy and connect to other supply countries. The United States has strongly imposed an embargo on Russian oil. But the European bloc, which has 40% of its energy supply from Russia, is making medium-term plans. Sources in Brussels say that before 2030, the EU must become independent of fossil fuels from Russia and jointly develop safe, cost-effective and sustainable energy sources. The day before, Putin signed a decree banning the export of some raw materials. The decree states that the purpose of the decision is to “guarantee the security of the Russian Federation and the uninterrupted operation of the industry.”
