Emirates Airlines has accused London’s main airport, Heathrow, of “industrial warfare” which is asking companies to reduce summer flights to ease “travel disruptions”, describing the behavior as “unreasonable and unacceptable”.
In a harsh statement, the United Arab Emirates company accused the management of “incompetence” and inability to cope with the holiday season.
Heathrow Airport announced yesterday that it was limiting daily journeys to 100,000 passengers and asked companies to stop selling tickets, with the usual excuses of increased demand and staff shortages.
Apologizing to passengers, Heathrow said some flights from London would be moved to another day or airport, or cancelled.
But Emirates lines – operating six return flights from London’s main airport to Dubai – said Heathrow had been given just 36 hours to activate the required reductions.
Problems with flights have appeared this year in many airports in Europe, which are justified by staff shortages such as pilots, flight attendants, check-in employees and others who were laid off during the isolation period. This has caused many passengers to face cancellations, long delays or problems with luggage.
Emirates accused Heathrow of a “cavalier” mentality towards passengers and airlines, saying it had prepared for the season by hiring and training 1,000 pilots in the last year, while Heathrow had failed to act, plan or invest.
