Albania takes over the presidency of the Security Council on Wednesday, June 1st.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, who is in New York, will deliver a speech at the UN’s glass palace, at the ceremony of assuming this 30-day presidency.
This historic event for our country was preceded by a meeting of Prime Minister Edi Rama with UN Secretary General António Guterres.
The press office of the Prime Minister says that this meeting served to discuss the program and priorities of the Albanian presidency of the Security Council and the readiness to offer its contribution in the service of peace and security, of human rights.
Prime Minister Rama, who in this meeting was together with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Olta Xhaçka, also met with Linda Thomas Greenfield, US Ambassador to the UN.
The Prime Minister says that Ambassador Greenfield expressed the highest considerations for Albania’s performance in the Security Council.
Albania has joined the United Nations Security Council, as a non-permanent member where it has taken on the responsibility of co-host with the United States, on the issue of Ukraine.
Although a small country, Albania in the Council has shown determination alongside the US in leading the council with several resolutions on Ukraine.
