The head of the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party expresses confidence, when he says that in 2022, Albania will have a new President.
Recalling that the majority fired Ilir Meta from the position of President, Balla, in a communication with journalists from the Presidency of the Assembly, said that they are waiting for the decision of the Constitutional Court.
“Today in Albania there is no vacancy for the President of the Republic. The President of the Republic has been dismissed by the Albanian Parliament, but that dismissal enters into force or not, only when the Constitutional Court rules.
The Constitutional Court must respect the deadlines set by the constitution and the special law for this court and give its opinion as soon as possible.”.
After explaining the procedure for the election of the President, the Socialist MP stressed that “Christmas 2022 will have a President who is not Ilir Meta”:
“At the moment that there is a vacancy for the President, we within the Socialist Party have defined the procedures we follow for the collegial decision-making in this case. The candidate for president must enjoy the consent of at least 20 signatories (deputies). In the first round, the candidate must have not less than 85 votes and after the third round, he is appointed by a simple majority.
In 2022, in February, March, April or July, there will be a new President of the Republic. Christmas of 2022 will have a President who is not Ilir Meta”.
