Descending three feet[3 m]underground each day, a group of robbers disguised as maintenance workers described over 800 feet[800 m]from the point where they climbed the stairs and reached the bank where they had set their eyes on the raid.
This is the underground tunnel on Zogu I boulevard that has been used by unidentified persons, with a plan by which they imagined that they would rob a second level bank.
All this happened without being dictated on the main boulevard until the moment when the Tirana police was informed shortly before the robbers opened the last chapter of the well-organized plan and consequently, before they entered the bank. Although the perpetrators fled without being arrested, police insist they have found traces in the vehicles used by them.
With special tools, they cut the ladder, cracked the concrete of the tunnel and from there with a clear map that he had to put directly in the bank, they started the excavations to create another tunnel.
This is the soil removed from almost 20 meters from here, excavated on the right side of this concrete block, which is the dividing line between the underground tunnel and the soil space located near the bank that was the target of this robbery.
They have dug and this is the part that is opened, daily by little to almost with a month time. The concrete wall of the underground tunnel on Zogu I Boulevard was cracked and through this space created by the robbers, the soil was removed, tons of soil, in fact, police experts concluded as soon as they arrived at the scene in search of the perpetrators.
The tunnel is located near the ministry of justice towards the center of the capital and there are already stairs that have been cut and stones removed from the space through the bank and the place where they dug.
After all the operations that lasted several hours were performed, a group of specialists welded the iron mesh, which will then be sophisticated with other measures.
This is the electricity with which they worked so as not to sink into the darkness and above all, to discern what they were doing.
For the police, this is the second case in a few years when robbers use tunnels to enter the bank. In the first, the perpetrators were caught.
Everything that remains after this failed robbery is part of the investigations that are being carried out by the Serious Crimes Investigation Directorate in the Tirana Police.
