Banksy seems to be positioned in support of the campaign to turn a former prison in the English town of Reaging into an art center.
This was confirmed by local officials after the artist himself admitted that the mural that had appeared on one of the surrounding walls of the building had been made by him.
The mysterious artist confirmed that the mural was his after posting a video where he appeared while performing it, on his Instagram account.
The mural shows a man escaping from prison, using a rope at the end of which a typewriter is hung.
The work suddenly appeared Monday outside Reading Jail, famous as the place where writer Oscar Wilde spent two years in prison for misconduct, in the 1890s, for having a homosexual relationship with him.
The prison closed in 2013 and activists want to turn it into an arts center. The Ministry of Justice in Britain, which also owns the building, has to decide in mid-March on its future. The campaign to become an art center has previously been supported by actors such as Judi Dench, Stephen Fry and Kenneth Branagh.
