Lulzim Basha has resigned as chairman of the Democratic Party. In the meeting with the parliamentary group and the presidency, Basha said that he has taken the decision to take a step back by resigning from the post but will continue to work for the re-establishment of the DP and the unification of Democrats, but at no point did he mention Berisha.
Basha: April 25 was a heavy blow for the Democrats and for the Albanians, the election massacre stopped the change on April 25. The hope of being resurrected has unfortunately been taken away by successive blows. I personally invested everything for a solution that would serve both the Democratic Party and transparency. Who was right and who was wrong, I am convinced that time will clarify.
Unfortunately, my attempt to keep the DP united failed. I and many Democrats faced a campaign of unprovoked and untrue attacks as a result today the Democratic Party is experiencing a deep crisis. For this reason, and to help Democrats put aside unprincipled divisions, I have decided to take a step back by resigning from the post of DP chairman, determined to help rebuild and unite Democrats.
This is not a retreat, but an incentive more to make our battle for a PD of the future all together naked from any slander than what has happened for the chair of the mayor. I am and will be fully committed to you, I will do everything to strengthen our vision for a Democratic Party that chooses the future.
This means that I will continue to work tirelessly for this resurgence of the Democratic Party around our values, principles and standards as Democrats.
Basha’s decision came after the party split and a deep defeat in the March 6 elections after the DP was ranked as the third force and Sali Berisha’s “House of Freedom” coalition was ranked as the second force. In his speech before the Democrats, Basha said that they are tired of the internal conflict, so he says that he takes this step “to heal the wounds unjustly opened in the minds and hearts of the Democrats”.
Basha: I am convinced of this that there is a need to start as soon as possible a process of awareness, analysis, principled unification and renewal, and then an open, transparent, free and fair electoral process, from the base to the center of all leadership. PD. The Democrats are tired of the internal conflict, of the campaigns and the denigrating language, from which the Democratic Party and Albania are harmed and only Edi Rama and his clique benefit.
Albania deserves and will have a strong, principled Democratic Party, on the side of the people, on the side of the civic and national interest and strategic allies, ready to face and win over the evil that has suffocated the country, for the future of Albania and democracy.
With the deepest gratitude to all those who have stood and stand for a PD of national, civic and Euro-Atlantic values, I want to assure all our Democrats, sympathizers, supporters, and voters that I take this step in the service of healing. of unjustly opened wounds in the minds and hearts of Democrats.
With the unbreakable determination to continue the battle with and for the Democrats, with and for the Democratic Party, as the only hope for the Albanians, to defeat the evil and for the future of Albania.
